In 1929, a WWI medic the army had mistakenly declared dead started pulling stones out of the Little Miami River and carrying them up the bank in buckets. He did it for fifty-two years. The result is Château Laroche — a real, functioning medieval castle twenty-five miles from Cincinnati, complete with murder holes, a dungeon, a secret room nobody knew about, and an order of knights that still runs the place today.
